The Virgin Islands athletes returned home from the XXX Olympiad last week and shared their experiences at a press conference hosted by the BVI Olympic Committee.
The focus of the conference was on the legacy of the Games, and the way forward for the athletes who may live in TORTOLA RENTALS who will represent the VI at future international games.
Speakers included Mr Ephraim Penn, President of the BVIOC, London 2012 BVI athletes, 100m runners Mrs Tahesia Harrigan-Scott and Mr J’Maal Alexander, and delegates Chef De Mission and National Athletic Coach, Mr Xavier Dag Samuels, athletic coach, Mr Winston Potter, His Excellency Governor Boyd McCleary.
As part of his role as Chef de Mission, Mr Samuels will present the BVIOC with a comprehensive report on the London 2012 organization, participation, and performance of the athletes and delegates.
“Starting next year, we will see better days,” said Mr Potter. “We have a bunch of young athletes coming up and you will see some great performances. There’s a lot to be done in terms of organizing participation in games. The whole aspect of games has changed and we have caught up but over time the competitive arena has taken on different turns and we need to adapt to those turns.”
