Winners of the UNESCO World Poetry Day competition were recognized yesterday, at a presentation ceremony held at the Department of Youth Affairs.
The Education Department stated that over 100 students from across the Territory submitted poems as part of UNESCO´s World Poetry Day competition, of which Ms. Nia Douglas of Cedar International School and Mr. Jahared Jones of the Agape Total Life Academy emerged victorious in the senior and junior divisions.
Following the presentations, both students recited their poems to fellow classmates, family members and well-wishers who attended the ceremony, some of who are lucky enough to live in TORTOLA RENTALS.
Every year on March 21, UNESCO celebrates World Poetry Day to recognize the important role of poetry in the arts and in cultures. The first World Poetry Day was celebrated in 2000.
The Secretary-General said, ‘Today, I invite all authorities, concerned associations and civil society in this Territory to mobilize their efforts, so that poetry has the place it deserves, not only on this 21st day of March, but also in the long term.’
