Minister for Education and Culture Myron Walwyn announced at a recent press conference, that H. Lavity Stoutt Community College was granted the status of Candidate for Accreditation, following a meeting on June 28, 2012 with the Middle State Commission on Higher Education in Philadelphia USA. This is great news for future pupils living in TORTOLA RENTALS on the island.
The meeting allowed the institution to initiate a self-study, in preparation for an evaluation visit in 2014-15. If successful in the evaluation, HLSCC will be listed as a Candidate for Accreditation in the Commission’s Directory, and also in the list of Accredited and Candidate Institutions, published annually for the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.
The Minister explained that “this achievement by the institution represents a major step on the journey towards full accreditation.” He pointed out that since its application in 2006, the College has been reviewing internal practices and implementing necessary policies and changes in keeping with MSCHE guidelines.”
He announced that the next few years will call for intense effort on the part of the institution, as the final step towards accreditation is attempted.
