Anya Stevens of Bregado Flax wins inaugural speech contest

The audience which included residents of TORTOLA RENTALS of looked forward to an evening of eloquent speech delivery, at the first Toastmaster’s primary school speech contest in Virgin Gorda last evening.
Emerging victorious was student Anya Stevens, of the Bregado Flax Education Center on Virgin Gorda.
Mr. Reshawn Stevens of Assembly of God Cornerstone and Mr. Quentin Warren of the Little Rainbow School captured second and third place.
Minister for Education and Culture Honorable Myron V. Walwyn in his opening remarks congratulated the Virgin Gorda Pioneers Toastmasters Club for promoting healthy dialogue and development of communication skills among the youth.
A packed Catholic Community Center, saw the six students presenting speeches on the question, “Are students going too far with the use of Facebook?”
Ms. Kimberly George, President of the Virgin Gorda Toastmasters Club in her remarks said that the Toastmasters Club is a training ground where individuals can learn in the areas of communication and encourages people to aspire to higher standards.
All participants received a $50 gift certificate from National education BookStore, a certificate of participation and a gift bag with supplies for the next grade level. In addition, Ms. Stevens was awarded an iPad 3. Mr. Stevens received a Kindle Fire while Mr. Warren received a Netbook.
